History
Samaritan Health Plans, Inc. operates as a division of Samaritan Health Services.
Samaritan Health Plans (SHPlans) was founded in 2004 by Samaritan Health Services (SHS). As the primary health service network in the region, Samaritan Health Services has significant expertise in initiating and implementing programs to enhance health care throughout its service area, and was formed for the purpose of providing a comprehensive system of health care and health-related services to residents of the Mid-Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast and other Oregon communities.
Samaritan Health Services was established in 1997 as a non-profit network of hospitals, physicians and senior care facilities serving the 250,000 residents of Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties. - Regional services include comprehensive cancer care, a full array of cardiac services, an inpatient mental health unit, Level 2 trauma center, dialysis treatment, and other specialty services.
Being part of a large integrated delivery system like SHS gives SHPlans an advantage through its infrastructure of facilities, information systems, providers, and pharmacies and health plans. The history of this infrastructure is very stable and growing. In 2001, SHS signed a management agreement with North Lincoln Hospital and in 2002 with Pacific Communities Hospital to manage the hospital and facilities in those areas. SHS has become a model system and others in the medical industry are looking to SHS as a benchmark.
Additionally, SHS is the parent company to InterCommunity Health Network (IHN) and Samaritan Choice Plans (SCP).
Samaritan Health Plans Inc. was granted its State Certificate of Authority in January 2004.
